Our Doctors

Dr. John Tomlinson

DVM
Dr. John Tomlinson, Jr. is a second generation veterinarian that was born and raised in this practice, which was started by his parents in 1965. Dr. Tomlinson knew at a very early age he was going to become a veterinarian, and continue the operation of the family veterinary clinic.

Dr. Tomlinson attended Potomac State College, West Virginia University, and in 1998 received his veterinary degree at Ohio State University, where he graduated with multiple awards in areas of medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology.

Dr. Tomlinson traveled to California in 1999, completing a preceptorship at The University of California Davis, and returned to Ohio in 1999 to a 9 veterinarian practice. He came back to Fairlea to practice with Dr. Tomlinson, Sr. in 2002 prior to purchasing the family practice.

Dr. Tomlinson is married to Susie Taylor Tomlinson and they have three children, Levi, Kate, and Taylor. The Tomlinson family are active in the community, serving in church and through 4-H leadership. They spend a great deal of their time working their farm, Stone Meadow, which is home to cattle, sheep, chickens, and several dogs and cats. Dr. Tomlinson’s biggest investment is in parenting, investing in the people his children will become. The Tomlinson girls have a big interest in veterinary medicine and have been involved in our practice since they were little. They will hopefully be the third generation of veterinarians in the Tomlinson family.

Dr. Allie Hinson

DVM
Dr. Allie Hinson joined the practice in July 2016, just after graduating from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Before vet school, she completed her undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences and Animal and Poultry Science at Virginia Tech. Although she has gotten used to being surrounded by loyal WVU fans (including most of her family), she is always excited to find fellow Hokies and occasionally, patients with names reminiscent of her beloved VT!

Dr. Allie has wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. She has been involved in veterinary medicine since high school, working in various clinics as a veterinary assistant, and even got a glimpse of scientific veterinary research while working as an undergraduate lab assistant in college.

The things she loves most about Fairlea Animal Hospital are the genuine connection we share with our clients and patients, and the strong bonds within our FAH staff family. Dr. Allie’s parents grew up locally, so she has spent a great deal of time in Lewisburg visiting family over the years, and is thrilled to now officially call it home!

She and husband Mark share their home with a small herd of furry and scaly friends, including her best buddy Riley – an Australian Shepherd who loves helping her film educational videos – and her Maine Coon cat Tobias, who identifies as a dog, and her newest addition Lylah, a fun-loving Brittany Spaniel. When she isn’t at the clinic caring for patients, she enjoys reading, traveling, swing dancing, hiking, floating the river, and playing outside with the fur kids.

Dr. Jennifer Cherry

DVM
Growing up, Dr. Cherry always felt a strong connection with animals and was especially drawn to animals and children that were sick or in need. That passion to care for the helpless never changed. Although in practice for close to two decades, she still finds herself excited to learn new ways to care for animals.

After graduating high school in Charleston, WV, she became a Registered Nurse, practicing primarily in neonatal intensive care. After 11 years, and with a lifelong interest in science and medicine, Jennifer decided it was time to pursue a new career, this time in veterinary medicine. She graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA in 2004. She initially practiced in Alabama for 8 years before moving back to West Virginia to help care for her aging parents.

Dr. Cherry states her goal is always to provide clients and their beloved pets the best care possible while earning their trust through kindness, compassion, and conscientious communication. She is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Fairlea Animal Hospital team and helping to keep your animal family happy and healthy for years to come.

Jennifer enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in dermatology, preventative care, client education, and internal medicine. During time off, her interests are gardening, audiobooks, painting, quilting, and playing drums with her son.

Dr. Cherry shares her home with a teenaged son, Cooper, cat Mokus, and Violet, a rescued beagle whose favorite job is to keep everyone in line. She also has a grown son in Alabama, Michael.

Dr. Sarah Edmond joined the staff of Fairlea Animal Hospital in 2014, while still attending high school. She continued to work with us during breaks while she attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. Dr. Edmond graduated from Wesleyan College in 2019 with a degree in Biology. She recently graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Edmond has a deep care and compassion for our clients and their pets and will go above and beyond to make their visit memorable. Receptionists

Emilee Vance

Receptionist

Emilee Vance is our small town girl, born and raised right here in Fairlea West Virginia. She joined our team in 2020, working full time while attending and finishing college, graduating Concord university with a degree in multi-categorical special education. Emilee has since followed her passion with a teaching career, but stayed on board as part of our weekend crew. Everyone enjoys working around Emilee with her loud, infectious laugh, calming nature, and her compassion, not only to animals, but to people as well. Emilee doesn’t hesitate to jump in and lend a helping hand when necessary, which makes her a wonderful asset to Fairlea Animal Hospital. We are glad she decided to remain a part of Fairlea Animal Hospital while working full time with WV youth.

Sarah Morrow

Receptionist

Sarah came to us from Alabama, joining our team in June of 2021. Sarah started with us part-time, filling in on the weekends as both a receptionist and with inventory, but has now joined the reception desk full time. We have come to know her for her dependability, positive attitude, and love of animals.

Assistants

Brittany Bevins

Veterinary Assistant

Brittany joined our team in August of 2019 as a kennel technician. Her work ethic had her quickly moving into a position as a veterinary assistant, where she was trained to assist with appointments. Brittany’s newest role is learning to assist as a surgical/hospital technician, aiding with dental and surgical procedures and hospitalized cases. Her can do attitude and easy laugh have made her a favorite among client and staff alike. She lives in Quinwood with her dog Jack

Raven Clutter

Veterinary Assistant

Raven joined our team in July of 2021, coming to us with a lifelong love of animals. She is continuing her career in veterinary medicine with us, and feels proud to be a part of a team that she calls knowledgeable and professional. She is continually learning new facets of medical care, which she can use as an advocate for her own pet, a Rottweiler/Lab mix named Puppy, and with our patients as well. Raven is calm and caring, and a wonderful addition to our staff.

Dustin Torrence

Veterinary Assistant

Dustin grew up in Amissville, Va just outside of Shenandoah National Park. He studied Anthropology and Psychology at George Mason University. He began learning about veterinary medicine while working as a kennel assistant in Fairbanks, Alaska. Dustin has always had an interest in both animals and medicine and we were lucky to have him join our team in August 2020. He feels that it is most important to ease the stress of both pets and their parents by treating every animal that stays at Fairlea Animal Hospital as if they were his own. In his spare time Dustin likes to run, hike, snowboard and play soccer. He currently lives in Lewisburg with his wife Liz, two cats Oliver and Harper Lee and their new puppy Freyja.

Ashley Ferrell

Veterinary Assistant

Ashley Ferrell joined our team in June of 2022, following a cross country move. She has previous experience with marine mammals as well as with dogs and cats. Ashley believes that the bond between our doctors and their patients is based on how deeply Drs. Tomlinson, Hinson, and Cherry care for our furry clientele, and the transparency they have in educating clients about what treatments are available for their pet’s needs. She loves to hear positive feedback from clients while out and about in the Greenbrier Valley. Ashley feels that educating owners about preventative care is one of the most positive impacts we can have on the day to day health of our patients.   Ashley lives in Lewisburg with her Siberian Husky, Mako.

Molly Harbaugh

Veterinary Assistant

Molly joined our team in October of 2022, coming to us from Maryland. Molly is new to veterinary medicine, but is learning quickly in all facets of our clinic. Molly enjoys seeing the bond between owners and their pets, especially how treatment makes a pet feel better, which gives great relief to our clients. Molly lives in Renick with her fiance and their dogs.

Jaelyn Furnas

Groomer

Jaelyn came to us in April 2022, following a cross country move from Oregon. She has a lifelong love of all furry creatures which shows in her work. She is frequently found giving extra attention to those who are here for boarding and grooming. She practices this love at home too, where she lives with two dogs, 4 cats, 2 lizards, a ferret, and a flock of chickens. Jaelyn loves to see a dog or cat, freshly groomed, showing how much better they feel. She is proud to be a part of the Fairlea Animal Hospital team, and calls our doctors and technicians thorough, understanding, and patient.
