Doctors

John R. Tomlinson, Jr., D.V.M.

Dr. Tomlinson

Dr. John Tomlinson, Jr. is a second generation veterinarian that was born and raised in this practice, which was started by his parents in 1965. Dr. Tomlinson knew at a very early age he was going to become a veterinarian, and continue the operation of the family veterinary clinic.

Dr. Tomlinson attended Potomac State College, West Virginia University, and in 1998 received his veterinary degree at Ohio State University, where he graduated with multiple awards in areas of medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, and dermatology.

Dr. Tomlinson traveled to California in 1999, completing a preceptorship at The University of California Davis, and returned to Ohio in 1999 to a 9 veterinarian practice. He came back to Fairlea to practice with Dr. Tomlinson, Sr. in 2002 prior to purchasing the family practice.

Dr. Tomlinson is married to Susie Taylor Tomlinson and they have three children, Levi, Kate, and Taylor. The Tomlinson family are active in the community, serving in church and through 4-H leadership. They spend a great deal of their time working their farm, Stone Meadow, which is home to cattle, sheep, chickens, and several dogs and cats. Dr. Tomlinson’s biggest investment is in parenting, investing in the people his children will become. The Tomlinson girls have a big interest in veterinary medicine and have been involved in our practice since they were little. They will hopefully be the third generation of veterinarians in the Tomlinson family.

Allie Hinson, D.V.M.

Dr. Allie Hinson

Dr. Allie Hinson joined the practice in July 2016, just after graduating from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Before vet school, she completed her undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences and Animal and Poultry Science at Virginia Tech. Although she has gotten used to being surrounded by loyal WVU fans (including most of her family), she is always excited to find fellow Hokies and occasionally, patients with names reminiscent of her beloved VT!

Dr. Allie has wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as she can remember. She has been involved in veterinary medicine since high school, working in various clinics as a veterinary assistant, and even got a glimpse of scientific veterinary research while working as an undergraduate lab assistant in college.

The things she loves most about Fairlea Animal Hospital are the genuine connection we share with our clients and patients, and the strong bonds within our FAH staff family. Dr. Allie's parents grew up locally, so she has spent a great deal of time in Lewisburg visiting family over the years, and is thrilled to now officially call it home!

She and husband Mark share their home with a small herd of furry and scaly friends, including her best buddy Riley - an Australian Shepherd who loves helping her film educational videos - and her Maine Coon cat Tobias, who identifies as a dog, and her newest addition Lylah, a fun-loving Brittany Spaniel. When she isn't at the clinic caring for patients, she enjoys reading, traveling, swing dancing, hiking, floating the river, and playing outside with the fur kids.

Jennifer Cherry, DVM

Dr. Tomlinson

Growing up, Dr. Cherry always felt a strong connection with animals and was especially drawn to animals and children that were sick or in need. That passion to care for the helpless never changed. Although in practice for close to two decades, she still finds herself excited to learn new ways to care for animals.

After graduating high school in Charleston, WV, she became a Registered Nurse, practicing primarily in neonatal intensive care. After 11 years, and with a lifelong interest in science and medicine, Jennifer decided it was time to pursue a new career, this time in veterinary medicine. She graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA in 2004. She initially practiced in Alabama for 8 years before moving back to West Virginia to help care for her aging parents.

Dr. Cherry states her goal is always to provide clients and their beloved pets the best care possible while earning their trust through kindness, compassion, and conscientious communication. She is looking forward to becoming an integral part of the Fairlea Animal Hospital team and helping to keep your animal family happy and healthy for years to come.

Jennifer enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in dermatology, preventative care, client education, and internal medicine. During time off, her interests are gardening, audiobooks, painting, quilting, and playing drums with her son.

Dr. Cherry shares her home with a teenaged son, Cooper, cat Mokus, and Violet, a rescued beagle whose favorite job is to keep everyone in line. She also has a grown son in Alabama, Michael.
